Muir Woods the Sonoma Wine Country in one great tour. Pass through the beautiful Marin Headlands on your way to Muir Woods National Monument. In the afternoon, relax in the Sonoma Wine Country, where you will enjoy wine tasting at a variety of fine California wineries. This full-day tour is a fun mixture of nature and culture.
Alcatraz Prison Tour Before or after the wine tour you can tour Alcatraz on your own time. The tour of Alcatraz includes the 45 minute audio tour "Doing Time: The Alcatraz Cellhouse Tour" which features interviews and stories of prisoners and correctional officers who either worked in or were incarcerated in United States Penitentiary-Alcatraz. Alcatraz Island is a senic 10 minute ferry ride from San Francisco's Embarcadero. The ferry departs from Pier 33 in Fisherman's Wharf so it is very easy to find. Take your time exploring "the rock". |

The day begins at 8:00am, heading north across the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers sweeping views of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the city skyline. We wind our way through the coastal mountains of the Marin Headlands and along the base of Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region) on our way to Muir Woods National Monument. |

The coastal redwood is the tallest tree species in the world. These trees only thrive in Northern California and Oregon, due to the thick fog that blankets the west coast in the summer months. In 1908, Senator William Kent and his wife donated their land to the state, and President Theodore Roosevelt designated it as a federally protected area. Muir Woods is the only surviving stand of old-growth redwood forest in the Bay Area. |

You will have 1 1/2 hours to wander amongst these towering giants. The sights, sounds, and smells of this living museum are sure to reconnect you with a natural world that was almost lost. The group will reunite before noon and travel to wine country, where we will spend the afternoon sampling fine Sonoma County wines. Taste a variety of white, red, and dessert wines at wineries such as Homewood, Cline Cellars, and Benziger Family, among others (tasting fees may apply). |

Stop for lunch either at a winery or in the historic Sonoma town square. In the town square, you will have a chance to visit Mission San Francisco de Solano, the northernmost California mission, sample cheeses at Sonoma Jack's Cheese Factory, and peruse the boutique shops of this quaint downtown. |

Traveling through wine country, you will see the beautiful valleys that have supplied the world with some fantastic wines for over 60 years. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of wine grapes is impressive and provides a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs. A stop at the Golden Gate Bridge is a must-do if you've never witnessed the awe-inspiring view of San Francisco from the Marin Headlands. The tour will end with a hotel drop-off at around 6pm. |

Plan to spend 2-2.5 hours touring Alcatraz though you can spend as much as you want. Unfortunately there is no overnight option on the island (not any more). Accessiblity NOTE: The approach to the main cellblock from the ferry landing is a steep incline. The path is 1/4 mile long with a 12% grade. Assistance is availabe through the park service. |

Reservations must be made 5 days in advance. The face value of an Alcatraz ticket is $26.00. All sales are final. Not for exchange, resale or transfer. Refunds according to NPS policy only. Lost tickets will not be replaced. Alcatraz Cruises LLC is not responsible for tickets obtained from unauthorized sources which may not be valid. Ticket holders must be in designated boarding area 20 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Seats will be released 10 minutes prior to departure. Current ID and credit card are required to board. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. All carry-on items are subject to search. Restricted and dangerous articles may not be brought on board. Proper attire required. If you buy a ticket, you consent to have your image or likeness appear in any live or recorded video or other transmission or reproduction. Alcatraz Cruises LLC reserves the right to refuse service or remove passengers from a vessel, bus, event or premise if determined to be necessary for appropriate safety reasons, if you cause discomfort, inconvenience, or annoyance to passengers, crew members or agents, or if your behavior is deemed to threaten the safety, good, order or discipline.
