Grand Canyon National Park Grand Canyon National Park is located in northern Arizona and it includes the canyon formed by the Colorado River, which gives the park its namesake. Grand Canyon National Park is one of the “crown jewels” of the United States National Park System and it is considered to be a natural wonder of the world. Formed by erosion of the Colorado River over 6 million years, the canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, between 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 km) wide and over a mile (1.8 km) maximum depth. The park is divided into two, the North and South Rims, by the Colorado River. Most visitors go to the South Rim, which is more developed. |
