Zion Canyon National Park Zion National Park is located in southwestern Utah near the town of Springdale. The main feature of the park is Zion Canyon, 15 miles (24 km) long and up to half a mile (800 m) deep. The canyon was formed as the North Fork of the Vigin River carved its way through soft Navajo Sandstone. The famous Narrows Hike winds its way up this canyon, both in and out of the river itself. Some of the side canyons are so fine that it is possible to touch both walls at the same time. Another remarkable hike is Angel’s Landing, which scrambles 2 miles (3.2 km) uphill to a perch hovering 1,200 ft above the river below. |
