Five Star Rating 4 Stars (Very Good)

The wine country tour was a nice experience. Our guide was very professional and fun. He had a good sense of humor and was knowledgable. He tried to adapt our tour to the participants. Great experience. Our accommodations at the Best Western in Sonoma, CA was exquisite. Our suite was terrific.

Message: A very enjoyable experience. Visited four wineries, from small to large. The driver was very knowledgeable and made a couple of extra stops on the way back to get some spectacular views of the Golden Gate bridge. The Muir Woods were filled with towering Coastal Redwoods and we were on our own to explore them at whatever pace suited us. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the wine-making process.

Message: A wonderful tour. Our tour guide, Becky, was knowledgeable about the Muir Woods tour, as well as the many wineries that we visited. We saw things that would have been impossible for an out of town visitor in a rental car. We were even able to take a quick detour for some scenic photos at the Golden Gate Bridge. We would definitely recommend it to anyone, especially first time visitors to San Francisco.

Message: This is a great tour! We had Dave as our driver & guide for the day and he was very funny and knew a lot about everywhere we went. Weather was perfect. We were able to hit four wineries. The Muir Woods are great, very beautiful. You do a little walking but it's not extensive. I highly recommend this tour.

Message: We absolutely loved the tour. We got much more than just a trip to Muir Woods and Wine Country we were delighted to find ourselves spending time at the Golden Gate Bridge. Muir Woods is breath-taking and we enjoyed walking amongst its beauty. It was great to experience different aspects of Wine Country, from the small town with a bunch of wine tasting areas to actual wineries. The tour truly made our stay in San Francisco memorable.

Message: This tour was great and the Muir Woods part of the tour was a much needed break from the wineries. The views were fabulous throughout the day which included views from the van, wineries and woods. It was a rather lengthy tour, but I knew this going into it so there is nothing to complain about. The tour guide was great and very helpful with questions and had a thorough understanding of the areas. The amount of time spent at each winery and at Muir Woods was very appropriate and I never felt rushed. A lot of people from our group bought bottles or even cases of wine from the wineries, including myself. I do recommend this tour to anybody, especially if you don't live in California. The natural beauty of the area is phenominal and if you love nature then you will appreciate everything about this tour. Thanks for making this a memorable part of my life!

Message: My two sisters joined me on this tour and we all agreed it was the best tour we have gone on. The guide was excellent--very friendly and knowledgeable. We have gone on tours with big groups and big buses and we enjoyed the small group and comfortable van so much more. Experiencing the beauty and serenity of Muir Woods before going to the Wine Country is a special treat. We all enjoyed going to smaller wineries and found all of the staff at the wineries to be a lot of fun. We found the quality of the wine we sampled to be excellent--as confirmed by all of us buying wine to take home and share with friends and family.

Message: The tour was very good, I did not feel rushed though 15 more minutes at Muir woods and 15 less at the Cheese Factory would have been nice. The 3 vineyards were a good mix. Tim was polite and funny and made the tour that much more interesting. I thought he knew his material well, but he never sounded like he was giving a rehearsed script. Would enjoy another tour from the company and Tim!

Message: Wish I could give a higher rating than excellent. Our guide/driver, Mitch, made our day. This was a real value for money day and has left us with memories that will last a lifetime. It was so nice being in a mini-coach that gave us the opportunity to get to know the 7 other people. FANTASTIC.

Message: This tour was one of our favorite parts of our first trip to San Francisco. Mitch was a great tourguide, and showed us many great spots. The small van made this trip much more personal and intimate than a big bus tour, and was better because of it.

The tour was well planned from beginning to end and our tourguide and driver, Dave, was very enthusiastic and informative about what we were seeing as well as knowledgeable about wine. He easily answered any questions the group had. The Sonoma wineries chosen for the tour were a good and varied selection and wines were delicious ones I will purchase again. EXCELLENT TOUR!

Detailed Itinerary

Day One

Hotel pickup will be between 8 and 9 am. A quick stop in the Presidio provides a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and a chance to learn about the history of this iconic landmark (fog permitting). After crossing the Golden Gate, we head into the Marin Headlands to Muir Woods National Monument.

Views of the Golden Gate Bridge
Golden Gate Bridge

Muir Woods is the last old-growth coastal redwood forest in the San Francisco Bay Area. The marine layer fog provides the cool, moist environment that supports an amazing abundance of plant and animal life, from the coastal redwood to the slimy banana slug. After an hour and a half in this tranquil preserve, we make a quick detour for an impressive view of the California coastline with San Francisco in the distance (fog permitting).

Next we head north into wine country. We stop for lunch in the quaint town square of Healdsburg, where you will have the chance to sample everything from olive oil and fine cheeses to gourmet chocolates.

Chardonay Grapes in a Basket

The lush valleys that surround Healdsburg are home to some of the oldest names in California winemaking. Wine appellations such as Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, and Russian River Valley abound with delicious varietals. The Alexander Valley alone boasts over 30 grape varieties, 28 local wineries, and over 200 independent farmers. The Healdsburg area includes over 90 world class wineries and tasting rooms, from palatial European-style villas to rustic family-run operations where you are made to feel like a member of the family.

In the afternoon, we visit at least three wineries. At these wineries you will be able to sample flights of 3-4 wines (some tasting fees may apply), browse the small gift shops, and learn about the local varietals and the winemaking process. After a full day, we check in at our hotel. This elegant, Tuscan-style hotel surrounds a luxurious courtyard pool with jacuzzi and sundeck, the perfect locale to enjoy a bottle of California wine. The casually elegant guest rooms are spacious yet cozy and provide all the comforts of home, including high-speed Internet access and a fitness center. For dinner, you can indulge in some fine cuisine at the hotel restaurant (not included).

Day Two

The second day begins after breakfast (not included) at around 8 am. We visit at least 4 wineries on this day, starting in the northern Sonoma Valley regions of Kenwood and Glen Ellen. Our journey south through the “Valley of the Moon” includes lunch in the Historic Sonoma Town Square, where you willl have the chance to visit the

Mission San Francisco de Solano, Sonoma, California
Sonoma's Historic Mission

Mission San Francisco de Solano, the northernmost California mission, taste cheese samples at the Sonoma Jack Cheese Factory, and peruse the boutique shops that surround this center of commerce. On our way out of Sonoma Valley we will make a final wine tasting stop in the Carneros region. The microclimate of the Carneros appellation is ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals and as such is home to no less than three champagne houses. If time permits, a stop for a glass of sparkling wine can easily be integrated into this tour (optional). On the way bac,k we will stop for a late afternoon view of the Golden Gate Bridge, with the city illuminated in the background. The tour will conclude with hotel dropoff at approximately 6pm.
